EASTER BUNNY Author: Mary Brandolino In memory of all the bunnies we couldn't save. I remember Easter Sunday It was colorful and fun The new life that I'd begun In my new cage. I was just a little thing When they brought me from the store And they put me on the floor In my cage. They would take me out to play Love and pet me all the time Then at day's end I would climb In my cage. But as days and weeks went by I saw less of them it seemed Of their loving touch I dreamed In my cage. In the night outside their house I felt sad and so neglected Often scared and unprotected In my cage. In the dry or rainy weather Sometimes hotter sometimes colder I just sat there growing older In my cage. The cat and dog raced by me Playing with each other only While I sat there feeling lonely In my cage. Upon the fresh green grass Children skipped and laughed all day I could only watch them play From my cage. They used to take me out And let me scamper in the sun I no longer get to run In my cage. Once a cute and cuddly bunny Like a little ball of cotton Now I'm grown up and forgotten In my cage. I don't know what went wrong At the home I did inhabit I just grew to be a rabbit In my cage. But they've brought me to the pound I was once loved and enjoyed Now I wait to be destroyed In my cage.

OUTSIDE OF THE GATE Author: Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Faust I/Osterspaziergang From the ice they are freed, the stream and brook, By the Spring's enlivening, lovely look; The valley's green with joys of hope; The Winter old and weak ascends back to the rugged mountain slope. From there, as he flees, he downward sends an impotent shower of icy hail Streaking over the verdant vale. Ah! but the Sun will suffer no white, Growth and formation stir everywhere, Twould fain with colours make all things bright, Though in the landscape are no blossoms fair. Instead it takes gay-decked humanity. Now turn around and from this height, Looking backward, townward see. Forth from the cave-like, gloomy gate crowds a motley and swarming array. Everyone suns himself gladly today. The Risen Lord they celebrate, For they themselves have now arisen From lowly houses' mustiness, From handicraft's and factory's prison, From the roof and gables that oppress, From the bystreets' crushing narrowness, from the churches' venerable night, They are all brought out into light. See, only see, how quickly the masses scatter through gardens and fields remote; How down and across the river passes so many a merry pleasure-boat. And over-laden, almost sinking, the last full wherry moves away. From yonder hill's far pathways blinking, flash to us colours of garments gay. Hark! Sounds of village joy arise; Here is the people's paradise, Contented, great and small shout joyfully: "Here I am Man, here dare it to be!" (Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, Faust I)

EASTER Author: Charlotte Batchelor Isn’t it funny? How at a glance its about chocolate eggs and a bunny! But on closer inspection, It’s actually about the resurrection. Upon a cross he was nailed, Because the Son of God he was hailed. Joseph could find no breath, So this was announced Jesus’ death. He was placed in a tomb later that day, The Pharisees put a huge stone in the way. Guards were placed who could not slack, As it was believed in three days Jesus would be back. On the third day there was a great quake, As the Angel of the Lord made the guards shake. When Mary arrived the Angel spoke, And all of their fears were finally broke. The Angel said your Lord has arisen he is not here, Go check when he did lay and have no fear. He told Mary to pass this message on, For to Galilee was where Jesus had gone. When Mary went to the disciples and said, They insisted he was dead. Peter was the one who wanted to see if she was right, So he went to the tomb to see it in black and white. At Emmaus two friends of Jesus’ did dine, With a stranger they broke a loaf of bread and shared wine. They suddenly realised it was Jesus the Holy one, But as soon as they noticed he was gone. Off to Jerusalem the two men went, To tell of the time with Jesus they had spent. As they were talking Jesus did appear, And the ghost the men did fear. Don’t be afraid Jesus said, As he showed the nail marks to prove he had once been dead. No longer do Jesus’ friends mourn, As the word was spread – Jesus has been reborn
